Chapel at Bushnell University is a chance to take a break from your studies and focus on worshiping the Lord in song and teaching as a community. Generally, chapel includes a few worship songs and a relevant message. Other times, it may be a panel of students, a faculty member presentation, a community leader sharing about an important ministry, or a time simply dedicated for worship and reflection.

Chapel takes place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday each week of the semester and on Wednesday at 8 p.m. twice a month, except for holidays.

We’re still developing our chapel series for the upcoming school year.

2019-2020 Chapel Series: Shalom

In today’s complex and complicated world, the challenge to live and flourish is stressful and difficult. We yearn for a life of happiness, peace and prosperity. This year’s Chapel theme calls us to find the way forward through the chaos and stress. Our theme is Shalom.

Simply, shalom means peace, specifically the peace of God. This peace is not just the absence of conflict; instead, shalom captures God’s heart and purpose for us to flourish as His children. The presence of Shalom brings calm and deep tranquility. It is a gift from God and its absence feels like a curse. Shalom, in Hebrew culture, is offered as a greeting, a blessing, and a benediction. Shalom is a fruit of righteousness and an anticipation of when Christ returns and sets all things right.

Our world needs peace. More importantly, shalom. Profoundly, shalom draws the broken and scattered pieces of our lives into a healthy whole, enabling the flourishing of people, communities and nations. For our year, shalom is a call to experience together the repairing, restoring and renewing grace and presence of Christ. Our theme passage is Philippians 4:1-13.

Philippians 4:7 is a hope and prayer of Shalom. “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
